Hello Comrades! Welcome to the monthly recap of the happenings from your cousin sister’s favourite podcast! The month of August was truly one of the toughest ones some Zimbabweans have ever seen and your podcast hosts were not immune to the stresses of it all. Yet, somehow we made it through and we were able to deliver a podcast every week!

The Pods

As you may have noticed we have now shifted release day to Thursday evening CAT . We will be doing our best to keep to this schedule going forward.

This month we covered many a topic such as the rise of the #ZimbabweanLivesMatter movement, the sharp rise in numbers of COVID cases and how ZANU PF kids and celebs alike could not help but put their feet in their mouths even when they were tweeting.

Alongside being a talented influenza in these streets Thembi also used her platform to shine a light on what was happening in Zimbabwe to The Shade Room’s 20 million followers

Nicolette Shaé

Emerging Derby-based artist hailing from Zimbabwe, Nicolette fuses RnB, Afro, soul and hip hop textures with a stunning vocal and catchy songwriting

Emmie Chiyindiko

Emmie grew up in Zimbabwe dreaming of superheroes and watching Captain Planet and the Planeteers, but now she's a chemist exploring green chemistry: reducing the carbon footprint by making industrial processes more efficient.

The 26-year-old who featured in Forbes, is now a chemistry PhD student at South Africa's University of Free State, says she studies catalysts in order to find better, cheaper and less toxic versions.

Christine Mhundwa

Christine studied journalism at Monash University. She went on to work for CNBC Africa in Johannesburg where she reported on South Africa’s politics, economy and stock market.

She had a stint reporting on European equities at Bloomberg in London. Currently she hosts DW’s Africa News bulletin and has aspirations of becoming the president

Ralph Mupita

MTN announced Ralph Mupita as its new group president and chief executive officer.
Ralph was born in Zimbabwe circa 1972. He was then admitted to the University of Cape Town, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. a Master of Business Administration degree, also awarded by the University of Cape Town. Later, he studied at Harvard University, in their Graduate Management Program.

MaryAnn Msengi

In July, Mary-Ann launched Farai London with the goal of redefining womenswear. Featuring bold prints to unique silhouettes. The brand’s signature dresses have been seen on anyone from Kylie Jenner to rapper Mulatto. Mary-Ann learnt how to sew from her grandmother Farai Angeline Tapedza, who the label is named after.

“She used to sell hand-knitted jumpers and dresses when she was my age, travelling from Zimbabwe, my home country, to South Africa to sell them”

Our Patreon Nominated Zimbo Doing It Big

Last month our Patreon subscriber Fungai Nzenza suggested that we introduce a show segment where our listeners get to nominate their own Zimbabweans Doing It Big. It could be yourself, family or a friend who is just finding a way to thrive in their own way! Since he is literally paying us, we took Fungai’s idea onboard and you guys responded in droves! After going through the nominations for this week we decided to Tine Ndlovu who was nominated by her sister.

Tine Ndlovu has overcome some harsh experiences to find her way to Saint Louis University in Missouri where she's finishing her second year with 5 scholarships, works 3 jobs plus a side hustle to cover the rest. Somehow she is a straight-A student on the Dean's list!
